Alcorn State quarterback Tim Buckley threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Arceneaux in the second quarter Thursday night, and the Braves hammered out a 13-3 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The win, which didn't count in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings, was the first for new Braves coach Ernest Jones and moved Alcorn to 1-3 on the season.
Alcorn's Taylor Richardson kicked a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter and another from the same distance in the fourth to give the Braves some breathing room on a night they were outgained 216-205 in total yardage.
UAPB (0-4) scored in the first quarter on Carlos Reyes' 25-yard field goal.
Buckley completed 9 of 18 passes for 118 yards with no interceptions. Arceneaux caught six balls for 79 yards.
The Braves play host to Southern University on Sept. 27 at 5 p.m.

BOULDER, Colo. - Aric Goodman made a 25-yard field goal in overtime to give Colorado a victory over No. 21 West Virginia (1-2).
The Mountaineers had the ball first in overtime, but Pat McAfee's 23-yard attempt clanged off the left upright.
The Buffaloes moved to 3-0 for the first time since 2004.
West Virginia quarterback Pat White ran for two touchdowns and 148 yards, and Noel Devine finished with 133 yards on the ground.

East Mississippi 27, Gulf Coast 23
PERKINSTON - East Mississippi quarterback Randall Mackey directed a 77-yard scoring drive that culminated in his 3-yard touchdown run with 21 seconds left to give the Lions a stunning upset of the second-ranked Bulldogs.
East Mississippi improved to 3-1 in ending defending national co-champion Gulf Coast's 15-game winning streak over two seasons.
Mackey, who was 6-for-6 on the winning drive, had three touchdown passes, the last of which was a 29-yarder to Wayne Brown with 3:59 left.
The winning drive came after the Lions stopped the Dogs on fourth-and-5 on the Lions' 23 with 2:13 left.
A huge part of East Mississippi's victory was blocking two field goals and an extra point.
Jones 42, East Central 35
ELLISVILLE - Early James' 8-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Jackson with 5:53 left hoisted the fifth-ranked Bobcats (4-0, 2-0 South) on a night the Warriors (0-4, 0-2) gave them all they could handle.
James threw three TD passes as did East Central quarterback Emmanuel Taylor. Jones running back Daniel Borne scored on a 13-yard run in the second quarter, giving him eight TDs on the season.
Pearl River 37, Hinds 10
RAYMOND - Emil Jones tossed three TD passes to lead the seventh-ranked Wildcats over the Eagles for the seventh straight time.
Pearl River improved to 4-0 and 1-0 in the South, while Hinds dropped to 2-2, 1-1.
Northwest 33, Itawamba 10
SENATOBIA - Germichael Sanford had rushing TDs of 76, 1 and 1 yards to lead the Rangers (2-2, 1-0 North). The Indians fell to 1-3, 1-1.
Delta 35, Northeast 0
BOONEVILLE - Johnathan Taylor threw touchdown passes of 14, 45 and 5 yards to Cordario Calvin to fuel Delta's one-sided win. Taylor completed 20 of 29 passes for 227 yards as the Trojans moved to 3-1 and 1-1 North.
The Tigers fell to 0-4, 0-2.
Copiah-Lincoln 28, Southwest 0
SUMMIT - Quarterback Micah Davis completed touchdown passes of 78 yards to Jason Bruce and 17 yards to Haki Reed as the Wolves improved to 1-3 and 1-1 in the South. The Bears dropped to 0-3, 0-2.
